ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos aren’t just getting votes to be in the Top 25 of college football anymore.
The New York Times thinks they have the potential to go much further in the post-season, and possibly represent the Group of Six in the college football playoff.
The latest bracket puts the University of New Mexico facing Alabama in the first round of playoffs.
The New York Times notes the Lobos still have competition from teams in other G6 conferences for that playoff spot. Those teams include Boise State, Oregon State and Fresno State from the Pac-12. James Madison from the Sun Belt is also noted as a contender.
