Libya’s Tripoli based Minister of Economy and Trade, Suhail Abu Shiha, held discussions with the Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Obeid, on ways to strengthen economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
The discussions were held on the sidelines of the forty-second session of the COMCEC Conference in the Turkish city of Istanbul from 31 October to 3 November 2026.
The talks focused on developing mechanisms to regulate trade exchanges and facilitating the flow of goods between Libya and Tunisia.
Abushiha outlined the regulatory measures adopted by his ministry to enhance the foreign trade system—most notably the Pre-Registration System (PTS) for importers and exporters—as well as the registration procedures and regulations governing commercial activity. He also noted the grace period granted to traders to regularize their status and fulfil registration requirements.
Furthermore, he briefed his Tunisian counterpart on temporary measures implemented to restore balance to the domestic market and ensure a stable supply of goods, including a temporary suspension of the export of certain commodities and food products, in order to prioritize the needs of the local market.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the upcoming sessions of the Joint High Committee and explored opportunities to expand cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, and free zones. The discussions further covered the establishment of partnerships and joint investment projects, aimed at advancing the economic interests of both nations.
