CASPER, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management has announced a series of wild horse and burro adoption events happening in June.
That’s according to a release from the BLM, which states that untrained animals will be offered to qualified adopters at the following in-person adoption events for a $125 minimum fee:
- June 7, Wind River Wild Horse Ranch: Approximately 20 untrained horses will be available; untrained burros may be available. Adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- June 7, Fourth Annual Spring Mustang Rendezvous: Educational event, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an information booth and horse show; no adoptions.
- June 14, Deerwood Open Ranch Days: Approximately 20 wild horses will be available for adoption or sale. Event opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m.
- June 21, Wheatland Off Range Corral: Up to 30 wild horses will be available for adoption or sale. Gates open at 8 a.m., with the live competitive auction beginning at 9. Animals not placed during the auction will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at the $125 minimum fee, until noon.
According to the release, each of the wild horses and burros that are available at these events have been removed from overpopulated herds that are roaming public western rangelands.
