Bar Nunn to see youth bike park added; June opening expected

BAR NUNN, Wyo. — Area youth will soon have their very first dedicated bike park in Bar Nunn, a project being headed up by the Central Wyoming Trails Alliance.

The park, which will be located adjacent to High Plains park on Nez Perce Trail, is set to be the first of its kind in the community.

“This is really exciting, because it will be the first bike park specifically for kids in Natrona County,” CWTA Director Austin Burgess said. “The goal is to encourage kids to get back outside and give them something constructive to do without overwhelming them with something that’s too challenging for beginners.”

Burgess added that though this will be the first youth-specific bike park in the community, the Central Wyoming Trails Alliance has experience building

The park will include several features, such as a number of drops, balance obstacles, jumps and more. One of the most prominent features of the park will be what Burgess calls a “dragon’s back” — a roughly 100-foot path that rolls and twists before opening up with a shark fin jump.

A portion of the park will also be designed for the small, pedal-less bicycles primarily used by young children, with extremely safe features for the youngest of beginners.

Burgess noted that the park is being designed solely with non-motorized vehicles in mind, though workers are also taking steps to ensure the durability of the park amenities in the case that people ride e-bikes, dirt bikes or other motorized vehicles on them.

Work began on the park in January, and Burgess hopes to celebrate the park’s opening in early June, he said.

“I think it would be perfect timing to celebrate a grand opening right after school lets out for the summer,” he said.
