Presidents of Mongolia and South Korea hold talks

AKIPRESS.COM – President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung held official talks on July 9, Montsame reported.

The sides reaffirmed their confidence that this visit, taking place after 15 years at the level of the head of state of the Republic of Korea, will mark the beginning of a “golden era” in relations between the two countries.

The Presidents reviewed the achievements of relations over the past 36 years and noted that relations and cooperation are expanding in all sectors and developing at the level of a “strategic partnership”.

The sides commended the active mutual visits and political dialogue, and highlighted that during the pandemic, the heads of state had agreed through a virtual meeting to elevate and develop relations to the level of a “strategic partnership”.

They noted that the matters agreed upon at the presidential level are turning into reality and agreed that there are broad opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economic, and all other sectors in the future.

They welcomed the signing of 21 intergovernmental and inter-institutional documents and the issuance of a Joint Declaration within the framework of the visit.

They noted the importance of the active work of the Intergovernmental Joint Committee and sectoral consultative mechanisms.

They agreed to jointly develop the feasibility study for the project to establish the “National Cancer Center II,” which serves as a symbol of relations and cooperation between the two countries.

They also agreed to look into training and professional development for the doctors of Mongolia and specialists in the Republic of Korea, as well as studying the issue of importing quality- and safety-compliant medicines and pharmaceutical products from the country’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

The heads of state noted that the Intergovernmental Consular Agreement and the Intergovernmental Agreement on Mutual Recognition and Exchange of Driving Licenses are of significant importance for protecting citizens’ interests, mutual travel, and residence.

The sides reaffirmed their commitment to establishing the Mongolia-Korea “Economic Partnership Agreement” based on the principle of mutual benefit.

The heads of state agreed to cooperate and develop the sectors of critical minerals, infrastructure, green economy, and digital transition based on advanced technologies, which are commonly reflected in the action programs of the governments of both countries.

He also noted that the “Solongo 1 and 2 Apartment Complex” project is being successfully implemented with funding from the soft loans of the Republic of Korea.

He expressed gratitude to the Korean side for supporting and cooperating on the “One Billion Trees,” “Healthy Mongolian,” and “Food Supply and Security” national movements, as well as the “President’s Scholar-2100” scholarship program.

He welcomed the establishment of the Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate with the Korean side on rebuilding the capital city of Kharkhorum, and expressed pleasure over the agreement to cooperate on the detailed engineering design and construction of the Ulaanbaatar-Kharkhorum railway.
