Three men have been arrested and charged following the shooting of a 31-year-old man outside his home in Mataika, Tongatapu, earlier this week, Tonga Police say.

Police said the victim sustained serious injuries after the shooting, which occurred outside his residence on 27 July. He remains the victim in an active police investigation, with authorities continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement, Tonga Police confirmed that the three accused are a 30-year-old man from Sopu, a 32-year-old man from Tufuenga, and a 31-year-old man from Kolomotu’a. All three have been arrested and formally charged in connection with the incident.

Police have not released details of the charges, the suspected motive, or the relationship, if any, between the accused and the victim. They also have not disclosed the type of firearm allegedly used.

Investigators say inquiries remain ongoing, and further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
