China introduces 240-hour visa-free transit for Kyrgyz citizens

Starting August 20, 2026, citizens of Kyrgyzstan can stay in China without a visa for up to 240 hours, or 10 days, while transiting to a third country or region. A separate visa-free regime allowing stays of up to 30 days on Hainan Island has also taken effect.

The decision was announced by China’s National Immigration Administration, Fergana news agency reported. The new rules apply to Kyrgyz citizens holding ordinary passports for foreign travels.

To qualify for the 240-hour visa-free transit, travelers must have a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region. Visa-free entry is available through 65 designated international border checkpoints, including those in Beijing and Shanghai.

Travelers using the transit scheme cannot move freely throughout China and must remain within the areas covered by the 240-hour visa-free policy.

30 days visa-free on Hainan

A separate arrangement now allows Kyrgyz citizens with ordinary passports to visit Hainan Province without a visa for up to 30 days.

Travelers must enter through one of Hainan’s designated international border checkpoints and are not permitted to leave the province under this visa-free regime.

The same rules took effect on August 20 for citizens of Vietnam.

With the addition of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam, China’s 240-hour visa-free transit policy now covers citizens of 57 countries, while visa-free entry to Hainan is available to citizens of 61 countries.

Previously, Kyrgyz citizens holding ordinary passports generally needed a visa to travel to China.

Bishkek and Beijing have gradually eased travel restrictions in recent years, but the two countries have yet to introduce a full visa-free regime for holders of ordinary passports.
