The United States and South Korea agreed Thursday to establish a system for sharing information on North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and discussed ways to strengthen their joint response to the regime’s increasingly sophisticated nuclear, chemical and biological threats.

The agreement was reached at the annual U.S.-ROK Combined WMD Countermeasures Committee (CWMDC) in Seoul, according to a press release from the ROK Defense Ministry.

Woo Kyung-seok, the ministry’s policy planning bureau chief, and Jason Hamm, a U.S. Defense Department deputy assistant secretary for nuclear deterrence and WMD countermeasures policy, led the meeting of roughly 40 senior officials.
