Russia, North Korea to name car bridge after Soviet hero who saved Kim Il Sung

The new car bridge linking North Korea and Russia will be named after Soviet officer Yakov Novichenko, who saved DPRK founding leader Kim Il Sung from assassination by a pro-South Korean group, a Russian official announced on Thursday.

Russian Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin made the remarks at the East Economic Forum in Vladivostok, according to the state-run TASS News Agency, adding that Russia plans to open its new border crossing adjacent to the bridge “in the very near future.”
