Molodaya Gvardiya Boulevard in Bishkek has been officially renamed. It now bears the name of Imanaly Aidarbekov—a statesman and the first chairman of the Main Executive Committee of the Kirghiz ASSR.
The renaming is part of efforts to organize the city’s toponymy and commemorate prominent figures in Kyrgyzstan’s history.
City Hall reported that municipal services have begun replacing road signs and address plates and updating information on mapping services.
The addresses of residents and businesses registered on this street will be updated in government registries according to schedule.
The street was previously named in honor of the «Young Guard» ( Molodaya Gvardiya) —a Soviet underground youth organization that operated in Ukraine during the Great Patriotic War. Its members actively fought against the German occupiers. Most members of the organization were captured and executed.
Imanaly Aidarbekov (1884–1938) was a statesman and one of the founders of modern Kyrgyz statehood. In 1924, he headed the Revolutionary Committee of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region and participated in the creation of the first government bodies.
During Stalin’s purges, Imanaly Aidarbekov was arrested and shot dead. He was posthumously rehabilitated in 1959. In 2024, he was posthumously awarded the title «Founding Fathers of Modern Kyrgyz Statehood.»
