Police charge two men in relation to deadly Ocho Rios crash

The St Ann Police have charged two men in connection with the deadly crash, which claimed the lives of four teenagers in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, on Saturday.

They are Akeem Palmer and Omarko Green.

They have both been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

Green has been slapped with an additional charge of perverting the course of justice.

Head of the St Ann Police, Senior Superintendent Carlos Russell, confirmed the details with our news centre on Thursday evening.

The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Shantana Leonard, 16-year-old Kenneil Lyle, 16-year-old Marcodine Maxwell and 15-year-old Rajani Abdul, all from St Ann addresses.

Initial reports from the police are that two black Mercedes-Benz motorcars were travelling in a westerly direction along DaCosta Drive in Ocho Rios at about 2:30AM on October 31.

One of the vehicles attempted to overtake the other and, in doing so, ventured into the path of a Toyota Vitz motorcar travelling in the opposite direction.

The Toyota Vitz was driven by Shantana, with the three boys as passengers.

One Mercede- Benz crashed into the left side of the Toyota Vitz, forcing it into the right lane, where it collided with the other Benz.

But video footage from the incident show a different account.

In the video, the driver of a Toyota Vitz appears to have lost control of the vehicle and veered into the right lane, where it collided with a black Mercedes-Benz, travelling in the opposite direction.

A second Benz appears moments later and narrowly avoids hitting the Vitz before coming to a stop near a gate.

The occupants of the Toyota Vitz were taken to hospital, where all four succumbed to their injuries.

The drivers of both Mercedes-Benz vehicles, Blake and Green, initially removed the licence plates and fled the scene.

They surrendered to police, accompanied by their lawyers, on Monday.
