NWC tightens restrictions in parts of St Andrew

National Water Commission, NWC, has implemented overnight restrictions for Jacks Hill and surrounding communities in St. Andrew.

Starting Wednesday, August 26, piped water will be supplied daily between 6pm and 6am until further notice.

The NWC says the schedule is necessary due to the continued decline in the water level of the Hermitage Dam and low inflows affecting the Constant Spring network.

The affected areas include Sunset Avenue, Harriman Close, Tavistock Heights, Tavistock Terrace, Millsborough Avenue, Millsborough Crescent, Ridgeway Terrace, Linneman Avenue, Doorly Boulevard, Widcombe Estate, Barbican Road and Salisbury Avenue.

Also affected are sections of East Kings House Road and Jacks Hill Road, all roads leading off Jacks Hill Road, as well as Farringdon Heights and Riva Ridge.

The NWC says some customers may still have difficulty receiving water according to the schedule because of their location, terrain or elevation.

Those customers can request trucked water by contacting the NWC Customer Care Centre.

The Commission is urging affected customers to have enough water stored to last through the non-supply hours and to carefully manage their supplies.

Several Kingston and St. Andrew communities are now already under water restrictions, while prohibition orders are in effect across seven parishes.

This means non-essential water use, including washing vehicles, watering lawns and gardens, filling swimming pools and pressure washing driveways, is prohibited.

The NWC says it will continue to monitor dam levels, system performance and drought conditions and provide updates as necessary.
