Yash is all set to return to the big screen with Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, nearly four years after the blockbuster success of KGF: Chapter 2.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the gangster drama is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 26, 2026.
With Yash’s massive star power, Geetu Mohandas’ distinctive filmmaking style and a star-studded ensemble cast, Toxic has emerged as one of the most anticipated Indian releases of the year.
Cast of Toxic
Yash plays the central role in Toxic, reportedly appearing in a dual-character setup involving Raya and Rumi/Ticket.
Kiara Advani plays Nadia, described as Rumi’s mother, while Nayanthara portrays Ganga, Raya’s sister. Rukmini Vasanth appears as Mellisa, an arms dealer, while Huma Qureshi plays Elizabeth and Tara Sutaria essays the role of Rebecca.
The supporting cast includes Akshay Oberoi as Tony, Sudev Nair as Karmadi and Darrell D’Silva as Salvador.
The film marks a major collaboration between Yash and Geetu Mohandas, with the acclaimed filmmaker stepping into a large-scale action world after earning recognition for her Malayalam films.
What Is Toxic About?
Set in post-Independence Goa, Toxic revolves around a gangster caught between loyalty, morality and his search for redemption in a world dominated by violence, greed and envy.
The film is expected to combine an atmospheric period setting with intense action and morally complex characters. At its core, the story reportedly explores the price one must pay in the pursuit of love and redemption.
Toxic Gets an ‘A’ Certificate
Toxic was initially planned for release on March 19, 2026, before being postponed to June 4 amid tensions in the Middle East. It was subsequently pushed again to August 26 to accommodate international distribution arrangements.
The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared the movie with an ‘A’ certificate and a runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes.
The censor board reportedly did not demand any visual cuts, though two words in the original Kannada version were asked to be muted or replaced. Mandatory anti-smoking and anti-alcohol disclaimers have also been included.
Over Three Hours Long
With a runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes, Toxic ranks among the longer major theatrical releases of 2026.
The lengthy runtime suggests that Geetu Mohandas has mounted the film on a broad canvas, with substantial character arcs, dramatic portions and elaborate action sequences.
Advance Bookings Signal a Huge Opening
The early ticket-sales trend has significantly raised expectations around Toxic.
Advance bookings opened several days before release, with shows filling up quickly across major centres. Mumbai, in particular, has reportedly witnessed strong demand, prompting exhibitors to add early-morning and late-night screenings.
Trade tracker Sacnilk reported that advance bookings had crossed 6.34 lakh tickets by the morning of August 24, generating roughly Rs 32.7 crore from advance sales.
Separate booking data from the tracker placed the India advance gross at around Rs 26.25 crore excluding block seats, while the figure reportedly climbed to around Rs 34.71 crore when block seats were included.
With spot bookings yet to come into play, trade circles expect the opening-day numbers to rise considerably once the film hits theatres.
Yash Responds to Toxic Controversy
Toxic has also sparked debate on social media over the portrayal of its female characters, particularly following the release of its promotional material and the song Tabaahi.
Speaking at a recent pre-release event in Hyderabad, Yash addressed the criticism and urged audiences not to judge the film solely on the basis of promotional material.
Describing Toxic as “bold”, “original”, “ambitious” and “path-breaking”, Yash stressed that Geetu Mohandas’ film carries a strong female perspective.
He also said the film has “a voice for women” and suggested that the context surrounding its female characters would become clearer once audiences watch the complete film.
Where Was Toxic Shot?
The makers filmed Toxic across several locations in India to give the movie an expansive visual scale.
Major portions were shot at Bengaluru Palace and in the Peenya area, Mumbai’s Film City and Madh Island, Palolem Beach in Goa, Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu and Jaipur in Rajasthan.
Toxic Cast Fees and Yash’s Producer Role
Apart from playing the lead role, Yash is also producing Toxic under his Monster Mind Creations banner.
According to reports, Yash has not charged a separate acting remuneration for the project.
Kiara Advani is reportedly being paid around Rs 15 crore, while Nayanthara’s remuneration is said to be between Rs 12 crore and Rs 18 crore.
Rukmini Vasanth is reportedly receiving between Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore, while Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria are also said to be earning in a similar range.
Massive Box Office Expectations
Expectations surrounding Toxic are sky-high, especially as it marks Yash’s first theatrical release after the historic success of KGF: Chapter 2.
According to Sacnilk’s reported advance-booking figures, the movie has already generated substantial ticket sales across India ahead of its release.
The Tamil version has reportedly collected around Rs 63.61 lakh in advance bookings, while Malayalam stands at around Rs 21.61 lakh and Telugu at approximately Rs 15.32 lakh.
The film is also reportedly gearing up for a massive worldwide rollout across nearly 12,000 screens.
Trade observers believe Yash’s post-KGF popularity, the film’s gritty mass-action positioning, its ‘A’ certificate and strong overseas potential could help Toxic deliver one of the biggest worldwide openings of 2026.
If the film manages to live up to the scale and intensity promised by its promotional material, it could go beyond being merely a huge opener and emerge as one of the biggest box-office performers of the year.
