Dem Boys Seh…
(Kaieteur News) – Dem Boys Seh Jamaica done join de long line, pack up dem suitcase, grease up dem handshake, and come fuh a lil bite at Guyana table. Dem boys seh if Guyana was a restaurant before, now it is more like a all-you-can-eat buffet wid international seasoning—call it “Oli & Opportunity Grill.”
But dem boys got long memory, fuh true. Dem remember when Guyana name used to be like taboo in some Caribbean airports. If yuh said “I’m from Guyana,” security used to raise one eyebrow, immigration used to raise two, and dem suitcase used to raise suspicion.
Dem boys seh there was a time when some Caribbean countries did not even want to hear the word Guyana. Is like the name used to come wid extra questioning, extra waiting, and extra “step aside please.”
One of dem countries even had a famous bench. Dem boys seh it was not official, but everybody know it. The Guyanese bench. Any week yuh pass through, yuh could see one fella from Guyana sitting down pon it, looking at he passport like it doing he wrong. The bench used to get more frequent flyer than some airlines. Is like it had loyalty points. Sit today, fly back tomorrow.
But look how times change. Now everybody smiling, everybody linking arms, everybody talking about “Caribbean integration” and “shared prosperity.” Suddenly Guyana is no longer that cousin you don’t invite to the party. Guyana is now the cousin who bring the whole pot.
Dem boys seh Jamaica now coming fuh bite, Trinidad already nibbling, everybody else sharpening knife and fork. Even countries who used to “don’t know Guyana” now got sudden memory loss problem. “Guyana? Oh yes! We always had a relationship!”
Dem boys laughing because love does be like oil, when it start flowing, everybody suddenly got pipeline.
But dem boys seh is alright. Guyana don’t mind sharing de table. Just don’t act like yuh was starving when yuh used to be turning down de food. Because Guyana remember too. Guyana just smiling now, serving plate big, portion generous, and hospitality strong.
Only difference is this time, Guyana watching who reaching for seconds.
