Prime Minister Mitchell to attend oil and gas summit in Suriname

Prime Minister, Hon. Dickon Mitchell will lead a high-level delegation to the Suriname Energy, Oil and Gas Summit (SEOGS) 2026, a premier regional forum bringing together global industry leaders, policymakers, and investors in Paramaribo, Suriname.

The Grenadian delegation includes Chairman of the Technical Oil and Gas Working Group Nazim Burke along with technical experts, underscoring Grenada’s commitment to engaging in the evolving regional energy landscape.

SEOGS 2026 comes at a defining moment for Suriname as it moves from major offshore discoveries toward first oil production, signalling a shift from exploration to full-scale development. Grenada will use this opportunity as a learning experience, gaining insights into best practices, regulatory approaches, and strategies for managing energy resources responsibly and sustainably.

Grenada is also positioning itself as the next major hydrocarbon destination in the Caribbean. With a strategic location and a highly prospective offshore basin, the country is moving decisively to unlock its energy potential.

Prime Minister Mitchell is scheduled to deliver a Presidential Address on Tuesday, 23 June, where he will share Grenada’s perspective on energy development, regional cooperation, and sustainable growth. He will also participate in leadership dialogues and bilateral meetings, while the delegation engages in keynote sessions, policy discussions, and solution-focused panels on the future of energy in the Caribbean and beyond.

The Executive Summit is expected to attract over 1,000 participants, including Heads of State, Ministers of Energy, public sector leaders, international oil companies (IOCs), national oil companies (NOCs), contractors, technology providers, financial institutions, and investors. Discussions will focus on advancing a sustainable energy future and leveraging resources for national and regional development.

Grenada’s participation reflects its proactive approach to understanding global energy trends, strengthening regional collaboration, and ensuring that any future development aligns with national priorities for sustainability, economic diversification, and long-term resilience.

Prime Minister is scheduled to return to the state following his presentation at the conference on Tuesday, 23 June.
