Heng Ratana, director-general of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), met with Silke Rofer, Germany’s new ambassador to Cambodia, and Markus Vallon, chief executive officer of Vallon GmbH, and their delegation on October 21 at CMAC headquarters in Phnom Penh to review progress in ongoing cooperation and strategic support for Cambodia’s mine action sector.
Ratana said he briefed Rofer and her delegation on the current state of Cambodia’s mine action sector, highlighting CMAC’s operational progress and achievements in clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) across the Kingdom.
He also expressed deep appreciation for Germany’s longstanding cooperation and continued support, which have strengthened Cambodia’s technical capacity, self-reliance and CMAC’s overall operational efficiency.
Rofer commended Cambodia’s progress and achievements in demining, reaffirming the strategic importance of the bilateral partnership between Germany and Cambodia.
Rofer and Vallon also presided over a handover ceremony for demining equipment supplied by Vallon GmbH to CMAC. The contribution continues the company’s support for CMAC’s efforts to clear landmines and ERW across Cambodia.
CMAC currently uses nearly 1,000 Vallon detection units to support its field operations.
