CMAC thanks Germany and Vallon GmbH for continued mine action support

The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) has expressed its appreciation to Germany and Vallon GmbH for their continued support for Cambodia’s mine action sector, as the company handed over demining equipment to strengthen efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) across the country.

CMAC Director General Heng Ratana welcomed Silke Rofer, Germany’s newly appointed Ambassador to Cambodia, and Markus Vallon, chief executive officer of Vallon GmbH, alongside their accompanying delegation, for a bilateral working discussion at CMAC’s Phnom Penh headquarters today.

During the meeting, Ratana briefed the delegation on the current situation in Cambodia’s mine action sector, highlighting CMAC’s operational progress and achievements in clearing landmines and ERW throughout the Kingdom.

He also conveyed his appreciation for Germany’s longstanding cooperation and steadfast support, which have contributed to strengthening Cambodia’s technical capacity and self-reliance, while enhancing CMAC’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.

In response, Rofer commended Cambodia’s progress and achievements in demining, while reaffirming the strategic importance of the bilateral partnership in supporting the country’s mine action efforts.

Following the discussion, Rofer and Vallon presided over an official handover ceremony for the demining equipment to CMAC. The contribution marks a continuation of Vallon’s support for the centre’s mission to clear landmines and ERW and help make communities across Cambodia safer.

According to CMAC, the centre currently operates nearly 1,000 Vallon detection units in its field operations, demonstrating the company’s ongoing role in supporting Cambodia’s demining activities.

CMAC expressed its profound gratitude to the government and people of Germany, as well as Vallon GmbH, for their continued partnership and assistance in advancing the country’s mine action efforts.
