Cambodia launched Francophonie Village 2026 in Siem Reap province on Friday, leveraging high-profile cultural diplomacy to revitalise its international tourism footprint ahead of hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit later this month.
Inaugurating the event, Tourism Minister Huot Hak framed the gathering as a key catalyst for driving sustainable economic opportunities, enhancing visitor engagement, and expanding regional commercial partnerships.
“La Francophonie is not only about sharing a language, but also about sharing culture, solidarity, dialogue, and openness to the world,” Hak said.
The inauguration drew roughly 600 delegates, spanning government officials, foreign diplomats, private sector representatives, and artists.
Over 50 exhibition booths hosted participating nations, including Vietnam and Laos, alongside local enterprises showcasing regional products, cultural diversity, and trade potential.
Beyond celebrating shared linguistic heritage, the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Tourism’s broader mandate to diversify travel offerings, empower local communities, and position the Kingdom as a premier international destination.
The Siem Reap event serves as an immediate prelude to a larger five-day celebration scheduled for November 13-17 at Wat Botum Vatey Public Park in Phnom Penh.
Staged under the theme “Khmer Smile, Francophonie Smile,” the capital’s programme will feature business conferences, panel discussions, artistic showcases, and culinary exhibitions.
Concurrently, Phnom Penh will host the landmark 20th Francophonie Summit from November 14–16. Senior officials view the summit as a pivotal venue to display Cambodia’s post-pandemic economic momentum, cultural heritage, and commercial readiness to a global audience.
