Phnom Penh court rejects corruption allegations

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has rejected allegations by Facebook user Dara Vong that plaintiffs must pay judges and prosecutors to have their cases heard.

In a social media post, Vong claimed that people filing complaints with the court were required to pay between $200 and $1,000 for judges and prosecutors to handle criminal cases.

The court categorically rejected the allegations, stating that filing a criminal complaint through the administrative secretariat of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court does not require payment of any fees.

It added that the case mentioned by Vong involved the issuance of bad cheques, in which three people, including Vong’s wife, had been charged by the prosecutor.

Regarding the proceedings, the court affirmed that all procedures had been conducted properly and in accordance with the law.

The court called on Vong to immediately correct what it described as baseless allegations.
