Military conscription training to launch on Independence Day

Cambodia will launch a training programme on November 9 for youth volunteering under its military conscription system, coinciding with Independence Day, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on Saturday.

He made the announcement during a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Cambodia’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations and inaugurating new facilities at the Multinational Peacekeeping Training Centre in Kampong Speu province.

“November 9, 2026 is the designated date for the establishment of the army and is also National Independence Day. It will mark the beginning of the implementation of the military conscription law to help strengthen our armed forces,” Mr Hun Manet said.

From that date onward, recruitment will proceed in phases based on military requirements, he added.

Mr Hun Manet welcomed the volunteers, praising their commitment to national defence and noting that nearly 15,000 young people had applied over the preceding 13 days.

The initiative marks an important step toward implementing Cambodia’s military conscription law and strengthening the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces through youth participation.
