PM calls for stronger military diplomacy to safeguard global peace

Cambodia will continue to strengthen military diplomacy and expand international cooperation to safeguard global peace and security, Prime Minister Hun Manet said yesterday.

Speaking during a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Cambodia’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations and the official inauguration of new facilities at the Multinational Peacekeeping Training Centre in Kampong Speu province, Hun Manet stated that the kingdom remains committed to promoting defence ties both regionally and globally.

He noted that the Ministry of National Defence continues to advance these objectives through memorandums of understanding, terms of reference, joint exercises and training programmes designed to enhance armed forces capabilities.

As a recent example, Mr Hun Manet highlighted his official visit to Turkey, where a defense MoU was signed between the Cambodian and Turkish defence ministries.

The prime minister stressed that expanding international friendships remains a key priority, adding that Cambodia will continue broadening partnerships and deepening cooperation with global allies.

This year, Cambodia is hosting the eighth edition of the Golden Dragon military exercise with China. Next year, the country is scheduled to conduct the eighth Angkor Sentinel exercise with the United States.

Cambodia will also host a trilateral peacekeeping exercise involving Cambodia, Japan and the Republic of Korea in cooperation with the United Nations, the premier confirmed.

The country plans to maintain active participation in military training and joint activities with ASEAN member states and regional partners.

These initiatives demonstrate Cambodia’s commitment to building mutual trust and collaborating with international partners to uphold security and global order, the prime minister added.
