Cambodia’s airport has met operational requirements and established standards over the past year, with authorities planning to develop it into a regional aviation hub.
Sin Chansereyvutha, Undersecretary of State and spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), said the airport had fulfilled its operational requirements and met established standards over the past year, adding that it had been able to handle all operational demands.
He said:
To cite one example, when a typhoon struck Hong Kong, the airport successfully accommodated the landing of several Cathay Pacific flights. We provide support for emergency response operations and other needs. As we know, this airport is not merely a national landmark; it is also an internationally recognised gateway that plays a vital role in facilitating the movement of passengers and air cargo. Looking ahead, we intend to transform the facility into an aviation hub—a central node for the regional transshipment of goods.
Although passenger numbers declined slightly, by approximately 11% in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, this was attributable to global uncertainties and various other factors affecting travel.
Nevertheless, air connectivity between Cambodia and the rest of the world continues to develop and expand.
Currently, 33 airlines operate flights to and from Cambodia, comprising 29 international carriers and four domestic airlines, although this number fluctuates seasonally.
Furthermore, we have established air service agreements with 48 countries. We are also preparing to sign similar agreements with three to four additional countries in the near future, with further details to be provided later.
