Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on the Cambodian people to give the government time and trust its efforts to resolve the border issue with Thailand, stressing the importance of maintaining a calm and meticulous approach to protecting the country’s territorial integrity.
The Prime Minister made the remarks during the official launch of the National Strategy for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) 2026–2030 at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel today.
He stressed that territorial issues and the protection of national sovereignty were of utmost importance and concern to everyone, affirming that the government had never abandoned its responsibility to defend the country’s territory.
Mr Hun Manet criticised opposition politician Um Sam An for allegations about the border area between boundary markers No 52 and 59 without clear evidence, instead of relying on hearsay. He said such claims could mislead the public and create suspicion and division among Cambodians.
He also cautioned the public against believing unsubstantiated information that could cause misunderstanding, urging them to allow the government to pursue its efforts carefully in defence of Cambodia’s territorial integrity.
He further criticised opposition groups, particularly as the election season approaches, accusing them of seeking political gains by making allegations and setting conditions to avoid responsibility rather than demonstrating genuine patriotism.
Mr Hun Manet also challenged Um Sam An’s remarks on the border issue, questioning his reluctance to return to Cambodia for a direct, face-to-face debate on the matter. AKP
