Cambodian authorities have deported 24 Thai nationals, including nine women, for illegally crossing the border and engaging in unauthorised employment, the General Department of Immigration said.
The deportation took place on Wednesday, following directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha and senior ministry officials.
Lt Gen Sok Veasna, Director-General of the General Department of Immigration, instructed the Department of Investigation and Procedures to carry out the deportation through the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province.
The operation forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and crack down on illegal activities.
Prime Minister Hun Manet has repeatedly stated that Cambodia will not allow criminals or individuals operating illegally to use Cambodian territory as a base for online scams or other criminal activities that threaten regional and global security.
He has called on authorities to continue investigating, suppressing and eliminating such activities and deporting offenders in accordance with the law, without exception, to protect national security and Cambodia’s reputation.
Under the direct guidance of Sokha, law enforcement agencies have continued efforts to combat cybercrime, investigate and apprehend criminal masterminds, and rescue victims who have been deceived or exploited, helping them regain their freedom and return home safely.
