a housing colony is being built on four bighas of land in Mungari village, Karchhana under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme Prayagraj: In a move aimed at providing permanent housing to some of the district’s most vulnerable communities, state govt is developing a housing colony under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana in Mungari village of Karchhana block, modelled on urban residential societies and equipped with modern amenities.The project is expected to benefit poor and marginalised tribal families as well as members of the Dharkar community, many of whom have been leading a nomadic existence in rural parts of Prayagraj district.Project director of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Bhupendra Singh, said a housing colony is being developed on four bighas of land in Mungari village.“The land has been identified and the selection of 43 beneficiaries has been completed. Construction will begin once the land lease process is finalised,” he said.The colony will feature amenities like paved access roads, solar streetlights, drainage systems, drinking water facilities, children’s parks and open gyms.Beneficiaries will primarily belong to tribal groups and Scheduled Castes. Among them are members of the Kol tribe and the Dharkar community, traditionally engaged in bamboo basket-making.District development officer GP Kushwaha said each beneficiary will receive a land lease measuring 20×50 feet, on which the family will construct its house. Govt will provide financial assistance of Rs 1.2 lakh in three instalments: Rs 40,000 in the first phase, Rs 70,000 in the second and Rs 10,000 in the final instalment.In addition, eligible families will receive wages for 90 days of work under the relevant scheme at Rs 300 per day, amounting to Rs 27,000.For many beneficiaries, the scheme represents a life-changing opportunity.Bhola Dharkar, a resident of Mungari village who supports his family by making bamboo baskets while living under a makeshift polythene-sheet shelter, said he never imagined owning a pucca house. He added that having a permanent address would also help him enrol his children in school.Similarly, Raghuraj Kol, who earlier worked in a stone quarry and now earns a living through whitewashing and masonry jobs, said owning a house would provide much-needed stability and allow him to explore better employment opportunities.
