It is being branded as a temporary pause, and many are hoping it won’t in fact be game over for Electric Playhouse in northwest Albuquerque.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – It is being branded as a temporary pause, and many are hoping it won’t in fact be game over for Electric Playhouse in northwest Albuquerque.
It’s a place where kids and adults could go to enjoy unique, immersive, and interactive games and displays utilizing motion-sensing technology – in addition to fine food and drinks.
“It’s an interactive experience. So, you go in there and play different games, take different pictures. It’s kind of like virtual reality without the equipment,” said Tajsha Cheeks, who took her kids to Electric Playhouse.
The company posted on its website and social media that it needs to temporarily close its brick-and-mortar location as it searches for a new operator.
But they added they will also be looking to still bring their unique technology to local museums, schools, businesses, events, and more. The company posted the following statement on its website:
“We are deeply grateful to the Albuquerque community, our members, guests, employees, partners, and supporters for helping make Electric Playhouse such a unique place. Stay tuned! We have some exciting projects in the works and can’t wait to bring new Electric Playhouse experiences into the community.”
While the goal is to one day be able to open their westside location once again, it is nonetheless a setback for many parents who enjoyed what the business had to offer.
“So, it’s sad that it’s closing. We need all the businesses and all the recreational activities that we can get for our kids,” said Sarah Arciniega.
Some fans of Electric Playhouse compared what they had to offer to Meow Wolf in Santa Fe.
“You know, we don’t have too many things like that here in Albuquerque. I mean, you could drive up to Meow Wolf. That’s really fun, but this is kind of a different thing,” said Monica Chavez.
The company also recently tried to expand with a location in Las Vegas, Nevada, but that location shut down late last year.
While many families are struggling to keep up with rising costs these days, those who spoke to KOB 4 said they didn’t feel price was an obstacle at Electric Playhouse.
“I thought it was fairly priced for what you got. I mean, we came to a Halloween dinner, and it was amazing. So much fun. I mean, I thought it was great,” said Chavez.
KOB 4 reached out to Electric Playhouse and its CEO for an interview but did not hear back Friday.
