A 16-year-old girl has died after an alleged excessive consumption of alcohol. The teenager ‘s mother has been arrested for exposing a minor to danger.

Initially, it was known that the minor was taken to the hospital for medical care, but she couldn’t make it, local media reported.

The tragedy unfolded in Alexandroupolis, northern Greece, yesterday, Sunday.

The teenager girl had managed to illegally purchase alcohol as the law prohibits minors from buying alcohol.

According to local media pameevro.gr, authorities investigate where the minor obtained the alcohol and examine video footage from security cameras.

The 16-year-old was taken to the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis at noon on Sunday. Despite doctors’ efforts she didn’t make it.

The incident occurred in the Land Zone of Alexandroupolis Port, it has not been revealed who found the girl and how she was transported to hospital.

The girl’s 48-year-old mother was arrested at night on the same day and a case file has been filed for the offense of the exposure of a minor to danger.

Following the death of the 16-year-old, investigations of the authorities are intensifying in order to exactly determine the circumstances that led to the girl’s death.

At the center of the preliminary investigation is the route the minor followed before the incident, while authorities are examining video footage from security cameras in order to map her movements and to verify who she was with and what exactly happened.

At the same time, an investigation is underway into where the alcohol she consumed was obtained from, as well as whether the procedures provided for by law regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors were followed.
