Aussie couple purchases 16th century Kerkyra estate

An Australian couple has purchased a seafront estate on Kerkyra originally built in the 16th century.

Architect and artist Susan Rothwell and her property developer husband Garry have claimed ownership of the property named ‘Kouloura’, which was originally built as a fortress centuries ago, as revealed in the August issue of British magazine ‘Homes & Gardens’.

The ownership of the property transfers to the Aussie pair from the Agnelli family (who founded Fiat) after they bought it in 2020.

The home has a long legacy, having been visited by Sophie Atkinson in her 1911 book, Artist in Corfu.

The sale price of the property has not been publicly disclosed.

“Built on a peninsula, this magnificent 16th-century Venetian fort stands as a Corfu landmark,” the rental listing for the property reads.
