Tripoli – The first founding meeting of the joint committee tasked with establishing a journalism institute was held Sunday at the headquarters of the General Authority for Press in Tripoli. The committee was formed by the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education and the General Authority for Press, according to Ministerial Decision No. 212.
The meeting was attended by Abdulrazzaq Dahan, head of the National Media Corporation and the General Authority for Press; Murad Al-Kurdasi, advisor to the Deputy Minister of Technical and Vocational Education; Jawhar Al-Himali, director of the Media and Communication Office; Salah Salama, director of the Department of Medium Technical Institutes; and Suleiman Dougha, acting director of the Department of Higher Technical Institutes.
Participants outlined the project’s main elements, discussed the initial framework for establishing the institute, and reviewed the proposed vision, mission, goals, educational and training programs, targeted groups, and the legal, administrative, and technical requirements needed for success.
The committee emphasized that the institute aims to provide opportunities for anyone interested in pursuing a career in journalism. Admission standards will be set to maximize access, regardless of applicants’ age or previous field of study. Programs will focus on specialized professional and practical training, enabling students to gain the skills and knowledge required for journalistic work.
The institute’s goal is to prepare qualified Libyan journalists who are professionally competent and ready to enter the job market. This will help meet the needs of media organizations and support the development of Libya’s media sector according to modern professional standards.
At the conclusion of the meeting, committee members agreed to draft a work plan outlining the project’s implementation phases and complete necessary studies and documents. These will be submitted to the Minister of Technical and Vocational Education for approval, ensuring the institute is founded on strong institutional principles and helps raise the standard of journalism education and training in Libya.
