Continued Epidemiological Surveillance Campaigns for Livestock in Sirte to Combat Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Sirte – The epidemiological surveillance committee, formed by the mayor of Sirte, has continued its field work to monitor the situation of foot-and-mouth disease. The team visited the livestock and sheep market, as well as several local livestock breeders across various areas in the municipality.

The committee is headed by the municipality’s agriculture and livestock sector chief. Other members include the head of the local municipal guard branch, the head of the regional agricultural police, a representative from the public slaughterhouse, and officials from the city’s animal health office.

Their inspections covered the livestock and sheep market in the Al-Zafaran district, along with sheep breeders in Jarif, Al-Gharbiyat, Abu Hadi, and Al-Sawawa. The goal was to assess the health situation and implement necessary preventive measures.

Committee head Nouri Al-Faqi confirmed that inspections carried out by the team, including earlier visits to the livestock market, Al-Gharbiyat district, and veterinary pharmacies, have uncovered no cases of foot-and-mouth disease among the animals examined in Sirte and its suburbs.

Al-Faqi added that the committee will continue its field program, expanding to reach breeders throughout the municipality. The aim is to strengthen surveillance and ensure livestock safety. Preventive protocols will remain in place to limit the spread of the disease, especially after cases were reported in eastern and western parts of the country.
