Dem Boys Seh…
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh Guyana is a land of many blessings. Oil. Gold. Bauxite, Forest. Nice people. And one more thing that deserve to be put on the Coat of Arms: coincidence.
Not ordinary coincidence, mind yuh. Guyanese coincidence does arrive with perfect timing, like rain five minutes after yuh wash de car.
Now imagine this. A political leader come out with some “revelations.” Before de echoes done bouncing off de microphones, one of he security or former security suddenly end up in police custody over an investigation so old that some people thought de file had become a historical document.
Dem boys scratching dem head.
Because if de investigation was alive all along, why it was sleeping like Rip Van Winkle? And if it was sleeping, who suddenly remember where to find de alarm clock?
Now, before anybody start writing angry letters, dem boys ain’t saying one thing got to do with de other. Dem boys only observing that in Guyana, coincidence does have a better attendance record than some public servants.
One old man at de rum shop put it plain: “When mango and coconut fall at de same time, I watching de tree, not de fruit.”
Dem boys know de Police got a duty to investigate crime wherever de evidence lead. Dat is exactly how it should be in any democracy. But justice got one bad habit, it not only got to be done, it got to look like it done fairly too. How come suddenly yuh find new evidence?
Because when long-cold cases suddenly wake up exactly when politics heating up, people gon naturally ask questions. And questions are like bush fires; once dem start, breeze alone can’t stop dem.
Dem boys seh perception is a stubborn mule. It don’t move because somebody shout at it. It move when people see consistency, transparency and fairness.
Otherwise, every strange development gon get filed under one heading: “What a coincidence!”
And in Guyana, coincidence getting so powerful these days that if it ever decide to run for office, it might win by unanimous suspicion.
Talk half. Leff half.
