ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New drought monitor maps show conditions worsened slightly in parts of New Mexico, including around Albuquerque and in northern counties, ahead of July 4.
The latest drought monitor update compared with last week shows more dry areas and some bad drought, especially in northern New Mexico.
Rain chances remain limited through July 4, with only a couple showers or storms possible in the eastern counties.
Chances start to increase a little more in some areas, especially on Sunday, and campers could see afternoon showers or thunderstorms later in the weekend.
Looking into next week, more rain could move into western parts of the state and possibly around Albuquerque starting Sunday or Monday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s monthly outlook highlights western New Mexico, Arizona and Utah for better overall rain chances as monsoon moisture builds through July.
