CASPER, Wyo. — Casper and Natrona County are expected to see warm temperatures and increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms through the week, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton.
Forecasters said Memorial Day is expected to be warm across central Wyoming, with temperatures running about 10 degrees above normal. Daily chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through much of the week, though the timing and placement of the most active weather remain uncertain.
Monday’s storm chances in Natrona County are expected to stay relatively low, with most activity focused near the mountains. Forecasters said a few showers cannot be ruled out elsewhere, but most areas are expected to remain dry.
Conditions could become more active Tuesday as additional moisture moves into the area. The National Weather Service said Natrona County is one of the areas most likely to see showers and thunderstorms develop Tuesday afternoon and evening as upslope flow interacts with the Bighorn Mountains.
Forecasters said locally heavy rain is possible with stronger storms, although storm movement should help limit flooding concerns.
The forecast remains uncertain later in the week as weather models continue to differ on the track of a low-pressure system expected to influence the region. Current forecasts show above-normal temperatures continuing with daily chances for showers and thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service also said warmer temperatures could increase snowmelt in higher elevations, potentially causing creeks, streams and rivers to rise in the coming days.
No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect Monday morning for Natrona County.
