How Kids Can Enjoy Free Fishing Day In Wyoming

It won’t be long now until the kids are out of school and already bored. If you’re trying to think of fun activities to get them involved, there’s a simple remedy.

Get them into fishing.

Not only does it get them off the couch and outside, but it also gives them a sense of pride when they catch a fish, makes them responsible for their fishing gear, and teaches them how to kick back, relax, and enjoy one of Wyoming’s most popular outdoor activities.

If you’re not sure where to begin, that’s ok, that’s where the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Wyoming State Parks, Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation, Wyoming Office of Tourism, The Wyldlife Fund, North Platte Walleyes Unlimited, and other community organizations come together to offer a FREE kids’ fishing day.

This year, the FREE kids’ fishing day will be held (in most places) across Wyoming on June 6. The event will kick off National Boating and Fishing Week, and also falls on FREE fishing day for everyone.

To participate in the FREE kids’ events, all you need to qualify is to be a kid. The events will be held across the state at preselected locations listed at the bottom of the article.

To participate in the FREE fishing day, all you’ll need to do is grab a fishing pole, bait, head to the water, and catch fish. This is the only day of the year that you don’t need a fishing license to fish. The only places you can’t fish without a license are Yellowstone National Park and the Wind River Reservation.

Even though you don’t need a fishing license, you still need to be aware of Wyoming’s fishing regulations. You’ll need to know how many fish you can have in your possession, what bait you can and can’t use, and where you can and can’t fish. You can find a digital copy of the 2026 fishing regulations HERE.
