CASPER, Wyo. — With a slew of community events on the horizon in Casper’s downtown and the Old Yellowstone District as summer approaches, a collection of city staff, area business owners and other volunteers recently took part in a beautification effort by planting flowers throughout the OYD.
“This coming weekend we’ve got Funky Junk, and then it’s practically one thing after another downtown after that,” Casper Community Development Director Liz Becher said. “We wanted to get it beautified before all these events are going to start bringing so many people into downtown and the OYD area.”
There are a slew of summer celebrations and events planned in downtown Casper and the adjacent OYD, including Funky Junk, Crazy Days, Art Walk, 5150′ Festival, the Casper Marathon, the Fourth of July Parade and much more.
Flowers were planted along Midwest Avenue from Poplar Street to David Street, and along Old Yellowstone Highway from Poplar Street to Ash Street.
The cost of the flowers were covered by the City of Casper and Wyoming Plant Company, Becher said.
Employees at a number of the area businesses took part in planting the flowers, and Becher said the participating businesses were The Lyric, Cygnet Brewing, ART 321, Wyoming Plant Company, Racca’s Pizzeria, Brick & Bond and Wyoming Automotive.
“We had a great time just working the dirt, even with how hot it was,” Becher said with a chuckle. “And I’m really happy with the results.”
