ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Heat will build across New Mexico this week with Albuquerque near 91 and Roswell near 98 as dry storms bring gusty winds, lightning and fire concerns.
Warm and dry weather will continue overnight as a strong upper high stays parked over Arizona. A few high-based showers may develop this evening near Ruidoso, Cloudcroft and the Sacramento Mountains.
The main risk with any storms overnight will be gusty and erratic outflow winds and occasional lightning.
Tuesday will turn even hotter. Afternoon temperatures will run well above normal statewide, with highs around 91 in Albuquerque, 98 in Roswell, the mid 90s in Carlsbad, the low 90s in Farmington and the mid to upper 80s in Santa Fe.
Albuquerque and Roswell will come within a couple degrees of daily record highs. Another round of high-based showers and isolated storms may develop Tuesday afternoon and evening over the Gila region, the Black Range, Ruidoso and the Sacramento Mountains.
Most of those Tuesday storms will produce very little rain, but may bring strong wind gusts and dry lightning.
