Crews bring recycling yard fire under control in South Valley

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Crews from Bernalillo County and Albuquerque brought a large fire at a recycling yard under control in the South Valley.

The fire started Saturday, at around 6:30 p.m., off of Broadway, south of Rio Bravo Boulevard. By 9 p.m., officials said the fire burned around two acres and crews surrounded it. The smoke still prompted a health alert, however.

The fire is now smolder over around two acres with no forward progress. However, crews will remain on the scene. Broadway remains closed between Prosperity and Rio Bravo.

More than 50 firefighters responded to the fire, with Albuquerque Fire Rescue assisting Bernalillo County Fire Rescue and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

No injuries were reported.
