After nearly seven decades in business in Louisiana, Arrow Termite & Pest Control continues to be a leader in the industry, earning the Gold Award for Best Pest Control in the 2026 Best of Baton Rouge competition. It’s the second consecutive year that Arrow has taken top honors in the category.
“I’m really happy to get to work here every day with my brother, Joseph, and my sister, Natalie,” said Jacob Cohn, Chief Operating Officer and Associate Certified Entomologist. “We’re actively involved in the business and our employees see that we care. We all get along very well and have our own roles. I think that is a big reason why we are successful.”
Cohn’s grandfather first opened Arrow in Monroe in 1958. His father moved the business to Baton Rouge in 1978, and it has been in operation in the Capital City since then. Today, Arrow has about 170 total employees. That includes a longstanding management team, most of whom have been with Arrow for seven years or more.
“They have stuck with us through some hard times and have learned a lot,” Cohn said. “I’m really grateful for them and it’s a good feeling to celebrate honors like this and have fun with them when we can.”
Cohn shared more about what sets Arrow apart and the kind of service customers can expect.
What differentiates Arrow from other pest control companies? We do a lot of ongoing training with our technicians that a lot of places don’t do. We also have improved how we hire and our company culture. We made a lot of adjustments around Covid that has led to us having more investment in our staff and community.
What are some of the most common pest control issues Arrow handles? The biggest issue in this area is termite protection. Because it is such a big deal here, we invested in the Sentricon baiting system about 10 years ago. About 90 percent of our termite services includes installing that active technology system around a home. It uses biology to eliminate entire colonies. We have had much better termite control success rates with that system as compared to liquid treatments.
Other than termites, we get a lot of calls for spiders, ants and roaches. We also get some unique calls every once in a while. Just last night, a friend called me because they had a honeybee swarm and their child is severely allergic. I was able to safely get rid of them. Even though I’m on the business side now, I still enjoy getting in the field and dealing with bugs from time to time. I grew up crawling around in attics and under houses when my dad was running the business, so it reminds me of those times.
What is the customer service process like at Arrow? When someone calls us the first time, we go through a qualifying process and ask a lot of questions about the person’s home, biggest pest concerns, how many bugs they see and how long the problem has been going on. Our technicians always do an inspection before any work is done. We like to get specific with customers so each person can have a customized experience based on their property and preferences.
When a customer signs on with us for preventative services, we go once a month, every other month or once a quarter, depending on their needs. Because termites are such a big issue here, we have programs with warranties specific to termites. We have more of those options compared to other companies.
How has Arrow used technology to improve service? My sister Natalie Cohn Hart has done wonders for our office. We use AI to rate our customer service representatives. We get notified if a customer is upset on a call. AI allows us to call more people back and answer more calls. That has been a big improvement. We also implemented a camera safety system in our trucks. That has helped our technicians be safer on the roads. We invested in a routing module that allows us to spend more time with customers and reduce technicians’ drive time. All of that helps us provide better and more timely customer service.
What tips do you have for homeowners to prevent pests? Keep plants away from your home. Keep moisture away from your home and have good drainage away from your house. Check caulking around your windows. Bugs and termites love to get into those small areas, but a little bit of regular maintenance outside does wonders for keeping them out of your house. Also, keep your home clean, wash the dishes each night and take out the trash regularly. Those small things can help prevent an infestation.
