VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City High School administration was made aware of a potential safety concern involving a small group of students on Thursday, April 30th.

Superintendent Josh Johnson said we want to provide an update regarding that situation. The comments made were inappropriate and threatening, and we take any issues related to student safety very seriously. Proper precautions were taken to ensure all students and staff are safe.

Administration immediately investigated the matter. All students involved were interviewed, and based on the information gathered, we are confident there is no active threat to our students or staff. We are comfortable moving forward with the facts as we know them.

Valley City Public Schools does not tolerate threats or discussion of violence, and such matters are addressed swiftly and appropriately. The students involved used inappropriate language, and the situation is being addressed.

Johnson said we are also aware that information circulating among students and in the community has largely been based on speculation and rumor. While portions of what occurred have been confirmed through our investigation, much of what is circulating has been unfounded. To help address this, we have met with both 7th and 8th grade classes to clarify facts and reinforce the importance of not spreading unverified information. We ask families to remind students to be careful about what they hear and share, as rumors can create unnecessary fear.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Rob Hunt at rob.hunt@k12.nd.us, Travis Peterson at travis.peterson@k12.nd.us, or call 701‑845‑0483. For additional student support, families may also reach out to Summer Burchill at summer.burchill@k12.nd.us.
