We’ve all grown tired of hearing about food and vehicle recalls lately. But in a move straight out of Dr. Evil’s lair, a new recall from a major Michigan manufacturer is affecting one million vehicles. Are you impacted?
Just from a Dr. Evil standpoint, that’s around $58.8 billion dollars worth of vehicles.
The Ford Motor Company has issued an incredibly massive recall which affects close to 1.1 million vehicles built in the last several years. It’s not just limited to many Ford vehicles, but many models from the Lincoln brand is also on this list.
Why Ford Is Recalling Over a Million Vehicles
According to Detroit Automotive Industry expert Jeff Gilbert, the problem is with the backup cameras. He said, ‘The issue can prevent the camera from showing what’s behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.’
When I was a kid, I had to use my mirrors, throw my arm over the passenger seat and look backwards while I was backing up.
How Backup Cameras Became a Safety Standard
But even though the first recorded backup camera was put into use in the 1956 Buick Centurion concept car, the backup cameras that we know today didn’t go into mass production until 1991.
That backup camera was mounted on the rear spoiler of the Japanese-market-only Toyota Soarer coupe. The first vehicle available to the American market was the 2002 Infiniti Q45 sedan.
