Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has reduced pump prices for petrol, diesel, kerosene and Jet A-1 fuel for August, citing lower international oil prices despite the depreciation of the Kwacha against the U.S. dollar.

Under the new monthly price review, petrol will retail at K25.29 per litre, down from K26.15, while diesel will cost K26.86 per litre, compared with K28.11 in July.

Kerosene will sell at K27.02 per litre, down from K28.22, while the price of Jet A-1 fuel has been reduced to K27.71 per litre from K30.27.

ERB Board Chairperson, James Banda, said international prices for petrol, kerosene and Jet A-1 declined during the review period, although global oil markets remained influenced by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

“The average price of petrol decreased to US$96.92 per barrel from US$105.82 per barrel, while the average price for kerosene/Jet A-1 decreased from US$158.97 per barrel to US$123.59 per barrel,” Banda said in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the average international price of diesel increased marginally to US$126.58 per barrel from US$125.65 per barrel.

Banda said the kwacha weakened against the U.S. dollar during the review period, depreciating to K19.00 per US$1 from K18.35 per US$1.

“Consequently, movements in international oil prices and the exchange rate were the key factors considered in determining the pump prices for August 2026,” he said.

The revised fuel prices took effect from midnight on July 31, 2026, and would remain in force until the next monthly review.
