A man who authorities said is a suspect in a quadruple shooting that targeted Twin Cities’ lawmakers and their spouses has a security background, according to a business website.

Vance Luther Boelter, the subject of a continued manhunt as of Saturday afternoon, is listed as director of security patrols for Praetorian Guard Security Services.

Authorities say the suspect in the shootings was impersonating a police officer.

State Sen. John Hoffman and wife were also each shot in their Champlin home early Saturday and hospitalized. Police went to check on the home of Rep. Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park. They spotted what appeared to be a police SUV with emergency lights in the driveway. Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who ran away.

Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their home.

Praetorian Guard Security Services is registered as a business with the Minnesota Secretary of State. The principal place of business is listed as an address in Gaylord, Minn., in Sibley County, which was previously an address of Boelter’s.

The business website said Boellter, who is 57, “has been involved with security situations in Eastern Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East, including the West Bank, Southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. He brings a great security aspect forged by both many on the ground experiences combined with training by both private security firms and by people in the U.S. Military.”
