RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A transport van with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Raleigh on Monday afternoon, police said.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, the van was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of Hammond Road and Rush Street just before 1 p.m. A pictures from the scene shows the two vehicles collided head-on.

Deputies said 11 inmates and two detention officers were onboard the van.
All 11 inmates, the passenger detention officer, and a passenger in the other vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The detention officer driving the van and the other vehicle’s driver were evaluated by Wake County EMS at the scene, but did not need hospital care, according to Raleigh police.
Police said the driver of the other vehicle, 45-year-old Andrew Wofford, is charged with:
- Careless and reckless driving
- Driving left of the center
- Failure to reduce speed
The crash is under investigation by Raleigh police. Drivers are asked to avoid the area while the investigation is underway.
