Three dead after Route 146 wrong-way crash

LINCOLN, R.I.– Three people are dead after a crash on Route 146 south in Lincoln early Sunday morning.

Rhode Island State Police say that at around 12:30 a.m. they were notified of a pickup truck driving southbound on Route 99 North.

That car was being driven by 41-year-old Denis Aguilar Campos of Chelsea, Mass., according to the RISP. It then crashed into a car on Route 146 as it neared Route 116.

Both Aguilar Campos’s car and the other car, which was driven by Jaylin Rainford of Randolph, Mass., were reportedly engulfed in flames.

Aguilar Campos, Rainford and Chiemelie Okonkwo, a passenger in Rainford’s car, were all pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Both Rainford and Okonkwo were students at Bryant University. Rainford was also a member of the university’s track and field team.
