Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition event will recognize Dr. Scott Siegel and Stockley Tavern while raising support for statewide screening, education and survivor programs

CLAYMONT, Del. — The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will honor a medical researcher and a community business at its 2026 Shining Light Awards, an annual event recognizing people and organizations whose work strengthens breast cancer care and support across Delaware.

The awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Waterfall in Claymont.

This year’s honorees are Dr. Scott Siegel, who will receive the Healthcare Delivery and Research award, and Stockley Tavern, which will be recognized for philanthropy.

The coalition said both honorees have demonstrated a professional and personal commitment to people affected by breast cancer. Their work represents two important parts of the organization’s mission: improving patient care and mobilizing community support.

Siegel is being recognized for medical research and efforts to improve the quality of care available to patients. The coalition said his work in breast cancer research and health care innovation has contributed to better outcomes and greater hope for current and future patients in Delaware.

Stockley Tavern is being honored for sustained fundraising and community involvement. The business has used locally driven events and partnerships to generate support for the coalition’s programs and demonstrate how small businesses can make a significant charitable impact.

The Shining Light Awards are also a fundraiser for the coalition’s breast health and cancer support programs. Proceeds help provide education, screening assistance, patient navigation, financial support and survivorship services to Delaware residents.

The coalition’s Women’s Health Screening Program helps uninsured and underinsured patients schedule mammograms and other cancer screenings at health care facilities throughout the state. Its outreach programs also bring breast health information and resources to community groups, workplaces, schools and health fairs.

For people diagnosed with breast cancer, the organization offers peer mentoring, support groups, educational programs and assistance for patients facing financial barriers during treatment.

Among those services is the Breast Care Assistance Fund, which provides emergency help to Delaware residents undergoing breast cancer treatment. The coalition also operates specialized programs for young survivors, caregivers, people with metastatic breast cancer, Spanish-speaking survivors and women of color.

The coalition describes its broader mission as replacing fear and uncertainty with knowledge and hope while helping patients overcome financial, cultural and logistical barriers to care.

That community impact is central to the Shining Light Awards. The event recognizes individual accomplishments, but it also highlights the network of physicians, businesses, donors, volunteers and survivors needed to support patients from screening through treatment and recovery.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition began in 1991 as a volunteer organization focused on reducing breast cancer deaths in Delaware. It has since grown into a statewide nonprofit with offices serving New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.

The organization remains focused exclusively on breast health issues affecting women and men in Delaware and surrounding communities.

Guest tickets for the Shining Light Awards are $80 and include admission, food, drinks and the awards ceremony. Sponsorship opportunities and donations are also available. People unable to attend may make a contribution in honor of one of the award recipients.
