CAPITAN, N.M. – Officials put residents north of the Capitan Mountains on Go status as the Seven Cabins Fire grew to 889 acres with 0% containment.
Residents in the affected area should leave now and watch for updated information from local officials. Officials will announce shelter locations as soon as they are in place.
Officals say the fire activity increased on the northeast side of the fire. Additional ground and air resources have been ordered to continue indirect confinement strategies.
The fire was discovered Thursday, May 14 at around 4:12 a.m., north of Capitan in the Capitan Mountains Wilderness area.
The Seven Cabins Fire is linked to a deadly medical plane crash northeast of Ruidoso. The plane crashed in the Capitan Mountains while traveling from Roswell to the Sierra Blanca Regional Airport, near Ruidoso.
