Santa Fe city councilors will vote on a plan to permanently close two Plaza streets and seasonally close two more to vehicle traffic.

SANTA FE, N.M. – Santa Fe city councilors will vote on a plan to permanently close two Plaza streets and seasonally close two more to vehicle traffic.

The Santa Fe City Council will take up the resolution Wednesday night.

The proposal would keep Lincoln Avenue and Palace Avenue closed permanently around the Plaza. It would also close Old Santa Fe Trail and San Francisco Streets to vehicles from Memorial Day to Halloween each year.

Business owners KOB 4 spoke to earlier this month shared mixed reactions about the plan.

“I think we’d see even more people being able to calmly, you know, traverse it. And again, the safety factor makes it a lot easier, makes it more family friendly,” said Richard Sills, gallery manager at Maya Gallery.

“It would suck, because it’s nice to drive around there, you know, like go cruising at night, you know, and especially when the lights are on, to drive by there and stuff. It’s real nice,” said Kelly Ortega of a family business.

If councilors approve the resolution, it would also let the city manager reopen the streets for designated cruise nights.

The councilors are set to vote on the resolution tomorrow night.
