Weeks after vowing to provide tax relief to Arkansans, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Thursday a call for a special session of the General Assembly.

Sanders released a statement with a “proclamation to call a special session,” adding that an “extraordinary occasion has arisen” to convene the 95th General Assembly. The special session will begin at 3 p.m. Monday.

The 2026 Arkansas fiscal session convened April 8 and adjourned Wednesday and included the passage of a $6.7 billion budget with a $211 million increase in spending compared to the previous year.

Sanders said the special session is needed to “amend the individual income tax brackets and rates to a top tax rate of 3.7%” effective retroactively to Jan. 1, and “to amend the income tax brackets and rates for domestic and foreign corporations to a top tax rate of 4.1%.” The latter would become effective Jan. 1, 2027.
