A new trio of concepts is set to breathe fresh life into a longtime downtown space, as the former Stratton’s Market prepares to reopen under new ownership in late May.
The reimagined space, located in River Market Tower, will debut as Mash & Vine Market, an upscale bodega offering a curated selection of provisions, wine, ale and spirits. The market will open with a limited selection while renovations continue.
The project is led by Jeremiah and Rachel Cotner, owners of The Puppy Community, in partnership with local residents Gary and Erin Penna.
In later phases, the space will expand to include two additional concepts. The Black Sheep Bistro will serve as a gourmet sandwich shop by day and transition into an upscale European-style dining experience in the evening, led by Executive Chef Michael Penna, who brings more than 30 years of culinary experience.
Also planned is The Volstead Vault Speakeasy (VVSE), a whiskey-focused cocktail lounge inspired by the Prohibition era. Curated by Gary Penna, founder of the Bourbon Club of Arkansas, the speakeasy aims to offer an extensive spirits collection alongside craft cocktails and mocktails.
Phase 1 is the demolition of the middle space at 409 E Third. Phase 2 is the build-out of the speakeasy and bistro, scheduled for a late summer/early fall opening. Phase 3 will be the remodel and refresh of the Mash & Vine Market. The final completion is scheduled for mid-November.
