River flooding in Pueblito area of Socorro County

ESCONDIDA, N.M. – Socorro County leaders ordered an evacuation in the Pueblito area east of Escondida on Tuesday, as floodwaters rise and roads turn impassable.

Officials urged everyone there to leave. People who are trapped or need help should call 911.

Bosquecito Road and Quebradas Road are impassable. An emergency shelter is available at Finley Gym in the city of Socorro.

The Socorro County Sheriff’s Office said traffic is blocking rescue operations. The office told people who are not actively evacuating from the Pueblitos and Bosquecito Road area to clear the area and stay off Escondida and Bosquecito roads.

National Guard and high-water rescue teams are operating in the area as water continues to rise.
